What is a plug-in dimmer?
A plug-in dimmer, also known as a plug-in dimmer switch, is a device used to adjust the brightness of lighting by reducing the amount of electrical current sent to the lamp. It is a convenient solution if you want to control the brightness of your lighting without installing a fixed dimmer switch.
How does a plug-in dimmer work?
The application of a plug-in dimmer is straightforward. The device consists of a plug that is inserted into an electrical outlet, with a socket on the other end where you can connect the lamp. The plug-in dimmer typically has a rotary knob, slider, or push button that allows you to adjust the brightness of the lamp. At ET48, we use an easy-to-use rotary knob or push button.
When you turn on the plug-in dimmer, the electrical current is sent from the outlet to the lamp. By adjusting the rotary knob, you can change the resistance in the plug-in dimmer. This, in turn, decreases or increases the amount of electrical current going to the lamp, adjusting the brightness of the lamp!
It is important to check whether the plug-in dimmer is suitable for the type of lamp you want to dim. Not all lamps can be dimmed, and some lamps require specific dimmers. We always recommend checking the packaging of both the dimmer and the lamp to ensure they are compatible.

Are there Smart plug-in dimmers?
Yes! A Smart plug-in dimmer is more advanced than a regular plug-in dimmer. The ET48 Smart plug-in dimmer uses Wifi.
It works in the same way as a traditional plug-in dimmer by adjusting the amount of current sent to the lamp. The difference lies in the added capabilities for wireless control and integration with other smart devices and automation scenarios.
With a Smart plug-in dimmer, you can remotely control the brightness of the lamps via an app on your smartphone or tablet. You can dim, turn off, or turn on the lighting without being physically near the dimmer. Moreover, Smart plug-in dimmers often offer additional features such as schedules, scenes, and integration with other smart devices.
Is a plug-in dimmer easy to install?
A plug-in dimmer may have the easiest installation of all dimmers on the market. No technical knowledge is required, and there is no complex wiring.
You plug the dimmer into the electrical outlet, then connect the lamp to the outlet on the other side of the plug-in dimmer. Make sure the lamp is securely attached, and the connection is firm. That's it! You can now dim your lamps.
